When Petrona McBean relocated to Durham Region, she quickly noticed something many Caribbean families already knew—finding authentic Caribbean groceries and specialty products wasn’t always easy. Rather than accepting the gap in the market, Petrona saw an opportunity to create something meaningful: a place where Caribbean culture could be celebrated, shared, and experienced by everyone.
That vision became Tropix Tingz West Indian Market Inc., a Caribbean grocery and cultural retail business based in Oshawa, Ontario. Founded in 2025 and officially opening its doors in March 2026, the market proudly operates under the slogan, “Bringing the Islands to Your Table.”
More than just a grocery store, Tropix Tingz is a cultural hub where customers can discover authentic Caribbean foods, specialty products, and traditions that evoke the warmth and vibrancy of the islands. Whether serving members of the Caribbean diaspora longing for the familiar tastes of home or introducing newcomers to Caribbean cuisine and culture, the business is rooted in community, connection, and cultural appreciation.
Tropix Tingz represents more than a business—it is a bridge between cultures, a celebration of Caribbean heritage, and a testament to what is possible when vision meets perseverance. With every customer served and every authentic Caribbean product shared, she continues to fulfill her mission of bringing the islands to the heart of Durham Region, one table at a time.
