About Us
Tropix Tingz West Indian Market is Durham’s destination for authentic Caribbean groceries and warm, community-first service. We’re hiring a dependable Store Clerk who knows great customer service, moves with urgency, and enjoys sharing product knowledge with shoppers.

Core Function

• Greet customers, answer product questions, and deliver friendly, efficient checkout using the POS.
• Receive, stock, and rotate inventory (FIFO); set up merchandising/price labels; maintain clean, safe aisles.
• Assist with deliveries, backroom organization, and basic store opening/closing tasks.
• Handle cash/card transactions, returns/exchanges per policy; keep accurate till counts.
• Support online/phone orders, curbside pickups, and simple social media tasks (e.g., posting a product arrival or promo).
• Follow food-safety, sanitation, and temperature-log procedures (coolers/freezers).
• Report hazards, incidents, or customer issues promptly; uphold our service and safety standards.

Experience

• 2+ years in retail grocery or similar customer-facing role.
• Confident with POS systems and basic cash handling.
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs and stand/walk for extended periods.
• Clear Criminal Record Check.
• Current or recent training: WHMIS, AODA customer service, Ontario 4-Step Worker H&S Awareness, Workplace Violence & Harassment.
• Food Handler Certificate (or willingness to obtain within 30 days).
• Strong customer-service skills; “people person,” patient, and helpful under pressure.
• Knowledge of Caribbean products or a fast learner with genuine interest.
• Punctual, reliable, committed

• Comfortable using and understanding social media for simple in-store updates (we’ll train on brand tone).
• Experience with inventory counts, merchandising plans, and receiving.
• Basic knowledge of allergens/dietary preferences (we’ll train).
• Familiarity with Oshawa/Durham community events.

• Competitive hourly pay (based on experience) + 4% vacation pay.
